The 53rd Annual Detroit Boat Show 2/12-2/20/11

The 53rd annual Detroit Boat Show will take place from February 12 to February 20 at the city’s Cobo Center.  A boat show is a great chance to see what is out there, fantasize about the boat of your dreams and connect with boat owners and boating enthusiasts.

There will be antique and classic boats, opportunities to adopt pets, a live shark encounter show and entertainment. In addition to the boats on display and family-friendly activities, visitors to the Detroit Boat Show can buy motors, dockage, water toys, skiing and wakeboarding gear, boating and fishing accessories, electronics, boat gear, plus nautical gifts and artwork

Included with all of the fun will be opportunities to learn more about boats and about boating safety. Children can attend the Kids Boating Clinic and adults can go to a Free Boater Safety Course.

Admission to the boat show is $12 for adults and admission will be free for children under 12 years of age who are with an adult and for seniors over 62 on Mondays. The Detroit Boat Show is Michigan’s premier boating event and the proceeds from the event go towards funding the programs and services of the Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA).

Dubai Yacht Show Attracts Fleet of Superyachts

One of the boating world’s most elite events, the Dubai International Boat Show opened this week. Hundreds of luxury yachts lined the docks of the United Arab Emirates’ sparkling port city on the southern end of the Persian Gulf. From sleek police cruisers to shark repellent, if it had anything to do with life on the water, it was for sale at one of the world’s premier boat shows. But it’s the fleet of super yachts the Dubai show attracts that lure the world’s rich and famous to Dubai each year.

With a price tag of 60 million pounds (nearly $90 million U.S. dollars), the Silver Zwei super yacht out of Australia commanded the most interest. An opulent 73 meters (239.5 feet) long with a top speed of 27 knots, the Silver Zwei took only 11 days to cruise into port from Australia. A bevy of 26 only slightly less stunning super yachts were also in port to delight attendees; and 400 smaller vessels, including well-equipped pleasure yachts and sleek, decked out fishing boats. One of the most unusual products at the show was the Jetlev Flyer, an individual water-powered jet pack flying machine that claimed to let the wearer “fly like a bird.”

The super yachts shown at the Dubai yacht show may be fun to look at and drool over but they’re not in most people’s budget. You can find fabulous boats at prices you can afford online on Boatline, the premier online boat sales site.
