2021 Release Boats LLC 301RXS, Center Console, As published in BOATING MAGAZINE: I like a boat that planes easily, and that stays on plane at low speed, since both attributes prove valuable on rough, open water.  I started liking the Release 301 RX just seconds after throttling-up the outboards. The stern comes up almost as fast as its bow, resulting in a smooth transition to plane, one without loss of sightlines. More, I coaxed this 30 footer to stay on plane at just 12.1 mph at 2300 rpm, both the engine trim, and the trim tabs at full negative.  Of course, a boat s ride can never be attributed solely to any one feature. Moreover, discerning boat buyers seek more than just a ride to the fishing grounds and the 301 RX delivers. Take for instance its wood-free construction, with fiberglass stringer system and hand laid fiberglass hull. The rigging I inspected exceeded every expectation. I noted wiring that was neat, well-supported and would be easy to troubleshoot. Plumbing consisted of quality hoses, double clamps and pumps located so that one could replace them with little stretching and contortion Comfort and style? The helm seat featured two-tone, pebbled vinyl and folding armrests, footrests and a commanding view for captain and mate. There were plenty of catch-all locations at the helm, and switches, instrumentation and big-screen, flush-mount electronics were installed with room to spare. Overhead, the T-top stood ruggedly on brawny pipework and boasted an underside colored to match the hull ( a variety of hull colors are available). Notably, this top did not visibly wrack or shake during our test, even while smashing through wakes. Inside the console, I found a standard electric head, plumbed to a holding tank, one of many niceties that populate the 301 RX s long standard equipment list. It s a nice space, bright, glossy gelcoat surrounds all; there s an opening port for ventilation; there s a vanity and sink.  On deck, there s a fold-down transom bench; both fresh and saltwater washdowns; a generous swim platform with room to walk across the boat in front of the engines; a transom door; and a swim ladder. The RXS version of this boat comes with V-seating in the bow if you so desire.  Fishing? the Release 301 RX a standard tjkk-gallon livewell with a blue-painted interior to keep bait calm. Ten gunwale-mount rodholders come standard as are under-gunwale racks for four rods per side. A trio of in-sole fishboxes. The recessed bowrail and sixtet of standard pop-up cleats, while not fishing equipment, per se, do enhance fishability by allowing for holding a rod lower while in the bow and minimizing line snags around the boat.
