With an attention to detail missed even by some artists, Howard Lund launched Lund Boats with a big splash. The initial request for the first line was over 50 boats for a dealership that saw the prototype aluminum fishing boat he built for himself and his family to use on the local lake. History In 1950, an Inland Marine Salesman asked Howard Lund for 50 of his prototype aluminum fishing boat models. He was happy to oblige, quickly; his boats gained the “World’s Finest Fishing Boats” tagline from customers who instantly fell in love. In the early 1960s, the Lund Boat Company became Lund Metal Craft, Inc. and started expanding into the production of fiberglass boats. This expansion would open a world of opportunity for Lund Boats to serve the fishing community and the family recreation market. Great Models for Different Tasks While the brand built innovative designs for their boats, they knew how to please their customers with variety and consistency across the board. The ‘70s introduced the Tyee and Mr. Pike model lines. The ‘80s brought about the Pro V, Rebel, and Alaskan model lines. In addition to all of these, Lund created sailboats and a luxurious 22’6” fiberglass Cuddy Cabin Plus for family entertainment. Refocusing on the aluminum boats that brought them fame and success, Lund closed its fiberglass factory in the late ‘80s and started working to satisfy the pontoon market in the ‘90s. The launch of the Angler, Explorer, Sportsman, and Chairman lines meant that families could gather on the lake for fun and entertainment in style. The 2000s brought back fiberglass after the Brunswick Corporation acquisition wrapped in 2004. Two new models were released under the new ownership, and both were new models in established product lines. Lund and Boatline Today, the Lund name still demands respect in the boating community. Lund holds a strong reputation for quality and innovation and is a leader for aluminum boats in the modern market. Finding the right dealership and service team for your next Lund is easy with the partnership of Boatline. Boatline offers the most comprehensive online network and database of new and used boats from authorized dealers and private owners.
